Our family enjoys showing and breeding our small herd
of Toggenburg does for 4-H and Open class shows. Kara who is 13 was 1st place
Intermediate 1 showmanship at 2007 Nationals. Callie who is 11, does very well
in her own right, placing 2nd in the Junior showmanship at the 2007 Nationals. Callie's showmanship placings, her
youth contest results and animal placings helped her to earn Premier Toggenburg Youth Exhibitor and ADGA Junior Youth Exhibitor
in 2007.
We have been raising Toggs
for 9 years and showing them for 8 of those. In this short time we
have shown many does to championships and have finished 14 as Permanent Champions.
Four of these we purchased as young animals without show wins, so we have relied on our lifetime of livestock experience
in selecting quality animals. Several of these does also remain in our herd as
foundation does. Every once in while they will sneak out of the barn to compete
and are still competitive.
We believe our does should be long-lived
and top producers. We will be starting our fourth year of owner-sampler DHI in
2008. We will also use DHI in our management and selection processes. As you will notice we are on a shortened lactation due to fact we are primarily a show herd but these does
earned *M’s even on a grueling show schedule.
Our “Style of Doe” is a deep-bodied, wide doe though-out with plenty
of dairy character. In 2004 and again in 2006 we participated in ADGA’s
Linear Appraisal and our does scored well in both of these categories, both in young stock and mature animals.
All doelings are raised on a CAE preventative
program, only bucks that are reserved will be raised on pasteurized milk and all others will be banded. If you are interested in a buck you need to notify us early for best choices.
